A experiência da meditação / The meditation

  No final do ano passado, reencontrei um amigo da época da infância, o qual atualmente está morando no sul do país. Curioso que ao cumprimentá-lo, senti uma energia em volta do corpo dele, coisa de centímetros de distância. Era uma aura calorosa e receptiva, coisa rara de se ver alguém emanar. Claro que logo quis conversar com ele a respeito. Uma das práticas dele que me interessei foi a meditação.

  A partir daí, queria saber mais sobre o que é meditar, como funciona, quais seriam os benefícios. Não demorou muito, marquei de sair com a Sabrina e o Jorge - e não é que ela sabia um lugar para me indicar e fazer o curso de meditação? O nome da organização é Brahma Kumaris, com sede localizada no centro de São Paulo. E só de entrar no local, percebi como a energia de lá era apaziguadora. Trata-se de uma organização sem fins lucrativos, mantidas por contribuições voluntárias, a qual possuí diversos projetos internacionais em prol da cultura de paz.

  Como o mês de janeiro eu estava de folga, aproveitei para fazer o curso. Convidei a Verônica, ela topou e começamos a frequentar a OBK. O conceito principal da meditação Raja Yoga (que significa "a conexão com o que é elevado") é a busca pela auto-soberania: é quando você tem domínio de sua consciência, o que lhe ajuda a tomar decisões sem se guiar pela ansiedade e pela depressão, afim de viver de maneira mais profícua. Tudo isso voltado para a pessoa aprender a pensar positivamente e conquistar a auto estima.

  Algumas das características que mais me interessei na meditação são as seguintes vantagens: reforça o processo de auto-observação, o qual é bastante importante para avaliar se os meus hábitos me fazem bem ou não; reduz o número de pensamentos para aumentar o número de atitudes, assim como melhora os pensamentos de forma qualitativa, além de eliminar pensamentos negativos - tudo isso se obtêm gradativamente, praticando constantemente.

  Não se pode encarar a meditação como uma forma de tratamento; não que haja contraindicação, porém de acordo com o que concluí, pode-se meditar como complemento a uma terapia, por exemplo. Com uma mente mais saudável, temos um humor mais estável e pensamentos mais construtivos. Também nos habilita a ter uma maior empatia, uma maior compreensão em relação às pessoas. Outra característica que acho bacana da OBK é a liberdade da crença dos alunos; apesar de eles incentivarem a acreditar em Deus, você pode seguir com a sua religião - ou ser ateu.

  "Ah, mas qual o embasamento científico você possui para me dizer que meditação funciona?" Dois psicólogos que conheço recomendam tal prática. Também posso citar Kelly McGonigal, PhD, psicológa da saúde e professora na Universidade de Stanford. Em seu livro "The Willpower Instinct" (algo como "O instinto da força de vontade"), ela diz, em tradução livre: "Neurocientistas descobriram que quando você aciona seu cérebro para meditar, torna-se melhor não somente na meditação, mas em uma ampla variedade de habilidades de auto controle, incluindo atenção, foco, gerenciamento de estresse, controle de impulsos, e autoconsciência. Pessoas que meditam regularmente não são somente melhores nessas coisas. Ao longo do tempo, seus cérebros tornam-se uma máquina afinada de força de vontade. Praticantes regulares de meditação possuem mais massa cinzenta no córtex pré-frontal, assim como em regiões do cérebro que auxiliam na autoconsciência."

  Desde janeiro tenho praticado diariamente. Sinto que estou mais atento às minhas atitudes e aos meus pensamentos e também tem me ajudado na terapia em paralelo, já que para corrigir um padrão de comportamento você precisa inicialmente identificá-lo. Tenho tomado novas iniciativas, sendo algumas delas coisas que nunca teria realizado por puro preconceito e/ou ignorância. Cada vez mais me permito a agir, a me colocar em novas experiências, a ter uma vida mais proveitosa. E você, tem pleno domínio de seus pensamentos e atitudes?

  Late last year, I saw a friend of mine since childhood, who lives in the south of country nowadays. When I saluted him, curiously I felt a energy around his body, some centimeters away. It was a warm and receptive aura, a rare thing to see someone emanate. Off course I wanted to talk to him about this happening. One of his exercises which I became insterest is meditation.

  Since then, I wanted to know more about what is to meditate, how it works, what would be the benefits. It doesn't take long time, I arrange to go out with Sabrina and Jorge - and the lady just knows a place to indicate me and start a meditation course? The organization's name is Brahma Kumaris, with headquarters located in Center São Paulo. I've just entered in that building and I noticed how the energy is quite placating. It's a nonprofit organization, maintained by voluntary contributions, which have lots of international projects in favor of peace of culture.

  Since I was idle in January, I used my freetime to make the course. I invited Verônica, she accepted and we began to go to OBK. The main concept of Raja Yoga meditation (which means "The conection with what is high") is to be in search of self-sovereignty: it's when you have domain of your own consciousness, which helps you to take decisions with no guide by anxiety or by depression, in order to live in a more fruitful way. All these things to people learn to think positively and conquer self esteem.

  Some of the features I became most fascinated in meditation are the following advantages: strengthens the process os self observation, which is really important to evaluate if my habits makes me feel good or not; reduces the number of thoughts to increase the number of attitudes, as improves the thought in a qualitative way, in addition to eliminate negative thoughts - you can get all of these gradually, practicing constantly.

  You can't face meditation as a treatment; it doesn't have collateral effects; nevertheless, according to which I concluded, it may meditate as a complement to therapy, for example. With a healthy mind, we have a more stable humor and more imaginative thoughts. Also it makes us having more empathy, a better comprehension about people. Other thing I think it's nice by OBK is the freedom of belief of their students; although they encourage to believe in God, you can follow the classes with your own religion - or being atheist.

"What scientific basis do you have to tell me meditation works?" Two psychologists I know recommend such practice. Furthermore, I can mention Kelly McGonigal, PhD, health psychologist and lecturer at Stanford University. In her book "The Willpower Instinct", PhD, KELLY MCGONIGAL (2011, p. 65) say this: "Neuroscientists have discovered that when you ask the brain to meditate, it gets better not just at meditating, but at a wide range of self-control skills, including attention, focus, stress management, impulse control, and self-awareness. People who meditate regularly aren't just better at these things. Over time, their brains become finely tuned willpower machines. Regular meditators have more gray matter in the prefrontal cortex, as well as regions of the brain that support self-awareness."

  I'm meditating daily from January. I feel I'm more watchful towards my attitudes and my thought, even it helps me at therapy as well, whereas in order to correct a behaviour pattern firstly you need identify it. I have taken new initiatives, some of them things I would never accomplished due to pure prejudice and/or ignorance. Increasingly I allow myself to act, to put myself in new experiences, to have a better life. And you, do you have full domain about your thoughts and attitudes?
